It is without a doubt that each and every one of us have something that hinders us. For some it may be the way you look, something you are addicted to, not being strong enough and for others it may be your physique, pride, foul mouth, or even lustful thoughts. Whatever it may be we all have something we deal with. Sometimes our problems lead us to begin seeing ourselves as inferior to others. We see ourself as being lesser than someone else. We see ourselves as being imperfect.
When it comes to a place of ministry we may see others who can preach better than others, some may pray more intense, and some may simply know more bible verses than we do. This causes us to put ourself in the mindset that God can not use us. We are not good enough or knowledgeable enough for God to do something with us. We begin to desire but our mindset and attitude closes us off from being used by God.
If their is one thing that God wants it is to use each and everyone of us. It doesn’t matter who we are or what we have done, God still wants to do something through us. In Jeremiah 1:5 the Lord says “before I formed you in the womb I knew you. before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” In Jeremiah 29:11 the Lord says “For i know the plans that I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a fututre.”
God designed our life from before we were born. He set us apart to live a life that he has laid out for us. A life that promises a great future. Why would God do all that and decide we are useless. You may say “but I can’t do anything. I can’t even quote a bible verse. How will God use me?” In Jeremiah 1:6-8 the Lord answers our doubts in saying “Go to everyone i send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for i am with you and will rescue you.”
God will take you with all your faults and will equip you along the way. Jeremiah was not able to speak yet God said go and I will tell you what to say and will be with you. The only way we are going to be used is if we simply take the step and allow Him to use us. God will use our imperfections and weaknesses to make himself perfect and strong. Next time you or someone else thinks you can not be used because of your past or imperfections remember the following people and characteristics of them:
- Noah got drunk
- Abraham was to old
- Jacob was a liar
- Leah was considered ugly
- Joseph was abused
- Moses stuttered
- Gideon was afraid
- Samson had long hair and was a womanizer
- Rahab was a prostitute
- Jeremiah and Timothy were too young
- David had an affair and was a murderer
- Elijah was suicidal
- Isaiah preached naked
- Jonah ran from God
- Naomi was a widow
- Job went bankrupt
- Peter denied Christ
- The Disciples fell asleep while praying
- Martha worried about everything
- Mary Magdalene was cleansed of seven demons
- The Samaritan woman at the well had five husbands
- Zaccheus was to small
- Timothy had an ulcer
- Lazarus was dead!
God is capable of using you no matter what you have dealt with. You just first have to be willing to let God use you. God does not call the equipped; he equips the called. In the next several blogs I will be writing about the characters mentioned above. We will see how God always looked for the perfect imperfect people to use.
